Custom Rifles

All machine work performed will have a maximum total run out (TRO) of .0001" (1/ten thousandth of an inch).  This is achieved by the use of G.T.R. Tooling fixtures and sound machining techniques by qualified machinists.

After all of the machining operations have been performed on a barrel blank to produce a finished barrel, and the barrel has been installed in the receiver to the specified torque values required, a certain amount of chamber distortion will occur right where the barrel shoulder meets the action face.  We then insert the finish chamber reamer and by hand, remove the resultant bulge from the chamber.

Any rifle we build, or any rifle that is accurized will be cryogenically treated after the machine work is done.  Even if you already have a cryoed after market barrel installed, the action assembly hasn't been cold treated.  As the non stabilized parts heat and cool during firing cycles the parts will be "walking" (warping) all over the place in the bedding causing stress and adversely affecting accuracy.  Cryoed parts have a much higher wear factor, exhibit consistent tensile and malleability factors (they don't fatigue), and shrink and expand due to heat and cold in a consistent and uniform fashion.  The racing industry has known this fact for many years and virtually every part in a championship race car is sent out to be cryoed.

All rifles will be test shot on a National Match Rifle Supports Inc.; Rifle Rest Model #4 (return to battery fixture), with the ammunition that is used by the owner to determine initial accuracy.  After completion of the rifle, it will again be shot using the same criteria.  The test targets will be shipped with the rifle.

We will build a rifle for you on any bolt action that you would like, but we highly recommend that you use a Remington 700.  The reason that we say this is that there are so many after market parts available for the Remington 700 that are relatively inexpensive.  When you build on any other action the after market "hot rod" parts are virtually non-existent.

MPI  Package Rifle Offerings

We believe that these offerings are the ultimate for the purposes specified.  We do not offer competition packages, as each competitor and shooting disciple is different and we feel that this should be approached on a case by case basis.

If you have any questions about a Light Varmint, Stalker (light weight mountain rifle), Heavy Hunter (long range capable 33 or 34 caliber), or Dangerous Game rifle we do offer them as packages but haven't listed them as yet on this page.  As time permits we will add the data to the page.

MPI Sniper Rifle Weapons Systems

The MPI Sniper Rifle packages are the most accurate production sniper rifles offered by anyone in the world.  I am an experienced, U. S Army trained sniper, and I believe that there is no such thing as too much accuracy.  If I can see it, I want to be able to hit it exactly where I choose to with the first round, and with every round there after.

We have made some changes to the U.S. Army M24 Sniper Rifle that make our rendition of this weapon much more accurate.

The most dramatic change is the use of a barrel bedding system.  The Remington 700 receiver (and any other receiver with a large ejection/feed port & a staggered box magazine cut) isn't rigid enough to bed using receiver bedding techniques (receiver bedding block, pillar bedding, etc.).  There is way too much flex in the receiver due to the amount of metal removed for the ejection/feed port & magazine.  A free floated barrel hanging off of a bedded receiver will have way too much flex.  The barrels weight acts like a lever flexing the receiver.  The longer and heavier the barrel, the more flex that is exhibited.  It should be obvious to anyone that the most rigid component of a rifle is the barrel.  Various riflesmiths have been building competition rifles with some sort of barrel bedding device (block, glue in, etc.), and free floating the receiver for many years with excellent results.  Our use of a barrel bedding for this weapons system allows us to offer a sniper rifle with unparalleled accuracy that is magazine fed.

One of the other issues that we have dealt with that is the production bolt & bolt raceways aren't concentric or even uniform in size.  There is just way too much slop even after blueprinting to suit us (typically about .0090" bolt movement at the shroud while in battery).  Our decision to install an oversized CNC manufactured custom made bolt means that our sniper rifle has a receiver that meets the necessary tolerances (other than rigidity) needed to make its performance comparable to a custom made competition receiver.

The MPI M24

This chambering has recorded kills in excess of 1000 meters on more than one occasion by more than one sniper, but the fact is that the terminal ballistics of this chambering leave something to be desired at ranges in excess of 600 meters.

The MPI Plainsman

This rifle is for the serious Long Range Hunter/Varminter and is the ultimate in mid- caliber high performance!

  • Caliber Selections: This rifle is chambered in either 7mm Remington Ultra Mag Match or 300 Remington Ultra Mag Match, and unlike the short action ultras, these chamberings aren't finicky - they like speed! The factory loadings are somewhat cold and once you start to push these loads they start to show phenomenal accuracy. With the combination of speed (both loads are between 2,800fps to 3,700fps - depending upon bullet weight - 100 to 240 grains) and relatively heavy weight bullets, long range accuracy and terminal performance is achieved.
  • Action: The heart of this rifle is a Remington 700 BDL chrome moly receiver that has had the bolt raceway over bored to .705", and then blueprinted. The oversized custom precision made bolt (.7035" diameter - max TRO .0001") has a Sako extractor and an extended length custom bolt handle. The firing pin channel is polished to a mirror finish, and an oversized diameter- lightened firing pin & benchrest spring, a benchrest cocking piece, a titanium bolt shroud, and a benchrest ejector spring are used. An oversized, precision ground parallel recoil lug is used. The entire receiver assembly is free floated.
